Why Are None Of The Public Sectors In Nigeria Actually Working?

Why Are None Of The Public Sectors In Nigeria Actually Working?

The Question In The Headline Was Raised By Mary Efonbruh, The Content Creator Of ‘One Truth At A Time’. I Think, In The Spirit Of Fellowship As Concerned Nigerians, We Need To Search For Answer Together. The Answer To This Critical Question Is Simple If We Approach It From The Perspective Of Reality And Historical Facts.

Firstly, The Governance System Of Nigeria Is Built On Deliberate Untruthfulness.

Secondly, It Is Consciously Powered By Deception.

Thirdly, It Is Stupidly Administered By Slothfulness.

Hence, This Type Of An Accursed System Of Public Service Should Not Be Expected To Produce Progress, Prosperity And Peace.

To Fully Understand The Level Of Degradation That Pervades The Public Institutions In Nigeria, Let’s Take A Cursory Visit To Every Ministry, Every Department, Every Agency Of Local Government, State Government And Federal Government During The Office Hours. What We Shall See Will Shock The Senses Of Singers Of ‘Giant Of Africa’ Meme, Back To A Reset.

What Shall We See In The Ministries, Departments And Agencies?

We Shall See Members Of Staff Strolling In To The Government Premises 3Hours After The Official Resumption Time;

We Shall See Empty Chairs Of Absentee Staff;

We Shall See Civil Servants Sleeping-On-Duty;

We Shall See Civil Servants Loitering And Sauntering About The Office Premises;

We Shall See Civil Servants Selling And Trading In All Sorts Of Commodities — Food, Clothing, Jewellery, etc.

Why Is This So?

It Is Because The Public Officers Haven’t Got Either The Required Financial Resources Or The Working Materials — Paper, Pencil, Typewriters, Computers, Ink, Vehicles, etc. — To Perform Assigned Duties.

Since The 1990s, This Is The Pathetic Story Of The Public Sector. And It Is The Scenario Found In All Government Ministries, Departments And Agencies Across The Country.

Openly And Ceremoniously, The Rituals Of Annual Budget Are Performed  — Preparation, Presentation To The Assemblies, Defence And Approval — As The Constitution Demands.

However, The Real Allocation Of The Finances Are Shrouded In Secrecy. This Is Because The Monthly/Quarterly Releases Are Often Done Haphazardly And Far Below The Estimated Amount Needed To Execute Proposed Plans Written In The Budget.

Hence, The Meager Funds Collected Are Quietly And Quickly Shared Among Heads Of Ministries, Departments And Agencies For Other Purposes Outside The Budget Plans.

Invariably, The Financial Allocations Collected From The Ministry Of Finance Never Reached The Downstream Of MDAs Where The Implementation Of Plans And Projects Are Waiting To Be Undertaken.

Although, The Salaries And Wages Of The Public Servants Are Paid Unfailingly Like Clockwork. But In Terms Of Financing Actual Productivity — Either Of The Day-To-Day Services To The Public Or The Capital Projects Of Infrastructures — Zero Fiscal Allocation Is Recorded.

But The Most Important Part Of The Scenario That Is Still Hidden From Fellow Nigerians Is The Fact That The Federal Government Of Nigeria Is Already Under Massive Debt. And Candidly Speaking, The Federal Government Of Nigeria Is Bankrupt.

This Is Why The “Health Ministry Received ₦36m Out Of ₦218bn Capital Budget Allocation in 2025 – Minister”.  A Serious Audit Report Will Confirm That Corporate Nigeria Is Merely Existing On Borrowed Time And Unpayable Loans.

Unfortunately, If Things Continue Like This — Living Under A Culture Of Infantile Corruption, National Deception And Personal Lies — From Top To The Bottom Of The Nigeria State, The Dishonourable Leaders Of Nigeria Will Finally Send The Country Into A Permanent State Of Existential Depression Sooner Than Later.

Wake Up Nigerians !!!
